November 24, 2013

Well, I mis-spoke (mis-wrote?) when I said in my previous blog post that we would be headed to Lodi from Salem.  I missed that we were going to spend two nights at Durango RV Park in Red Bluff, CA, before heading to Flag City.  Sorry about that.  It was our first time at Durango RV – in the past we have stayed at Mountain Gate RV just north of Redding.  Paddy wanted to change things up a bit this year.  Durango was okay, but it was very close to the highway (I-5), and there were also train tracks close-by.  But, there was an excellent Mexican restaurant in Red Bluff which made up for the noise factor.  It will be a toss-up to decide where to stay next time.

After two nights at Durango, we spent two nights at Flag City RV near Lodi, CA.  We have stayed at this park a number of times before and it always works out for us.  We spent our free day visiting a wine tasting place called Wine & Roses, and had a late lunch at the restaurant connected with the wine shop.  We had a wonderful meal of seared Ahi tuna salad accompanied by an appetizer of several olive oils served with a special bread and olive tapenade.  We were able to include Minnie in the festivities, as they have a patio that accommodates doggies.  Minnie got a little cold on the concrete patio and ended up sitting on top of my purse; she’s very resourceful.

Now we are at Orange Grove RV in Bakersfield, CA, for two nights.  This is a park that is set in an actual orange grove where they let you pick the oranges in season.   One of the things we like here is that there is a Popeye’s in town.  Also a fruit and date stand nearby that sells date shakes; yummy!  From here we will go to the Palm Springs area where we will visit our friend Leslie and spend Thanksgiving with friends Jon and Lisa.  A nice layover before ending our travel on Nov. 30th at Palm Creek Resort in Casa Grande.
