Happy Birthday, Paddy

We are in Yuma, AZ, and just finished up three nights at the home of Al and Mavis. Al is an artist friend Paddy met in Eatonville when he was doing art festivals. He and Mavis winter in Yuma and summer in Graham, WA. They have a house east of Yuma in the Foothills area with full hookups for an RV next to the house. It’s a very nice arrangement and Uncle Joe fits perfectly in the slot.


We arrived Friday afternoon, and on Saturday we went out to breakfast, then to the Yuma Territorial Prison Museum, an old 19th century prison that has been turned into a museum. The buildings are almost all gone now, but there is a guard house and a cell block section still somewhat intact. Brrrr, it’s grisly! Six men to a cell that measures about 10’ X 13’. Thick stone walls and woven steel straps for the cell doors. There’s also a dark cell which was used as an isolation cell. It’s completely dark except for a small hole in the roof that lets in a little light during the day.


After the museum we went to Lute’s Casino, an old domino parlor turned into a café with old pictures of movie stars on the walls. Fun, and they served up a fairly good tortilla soup. Then in the evening, we went with Al and Mavis to their friend’s birthday party.

Of course, yesterday we watched the Super Bowl, and our team won! ‘Nuff said.

Today we moved to an RV resort called Sun Vista. When Al extended the invitation to stay at his place, he made it pretty clear that three days was as long as he wanted us there. Sun Vista is a nice park with LOTS of very nice amenities (e.g., two large swimming pools) and activities galore. But it does have a down side – narrow streets that made it very difficult to back into our slot and more dirt than gravel in the site. Also, the cement patio does not match up with our door, so we are using our woven outdoor rug to step out on. If it rains the place will be very muddy. Let’s hope for no rain.

Tomorrow, February 9th, is Paddy’s birthday. He will be 66, just a young sprout. We plan to go out to dinner at Lobster House with Al and Mavis to celebrate. Happy B’day, Paddy!
