Independence Day

Saturday, July 4, 2009

We are at MountHaven RV Park near the Paradise entrance to Mt. Rainier. We stayed here last 4th of July to get away from the fireworks in our neighborhood. There were a few “bangs” down the road but nothing like our Cougar Ridge. Looks like this may be an annual thing for us.

So far everything in Uncle Joe seems to be working okay. It was very hot yesterday when we arrived, but we couldn’t use the air conditioning because we are only on 30 amp power here. It cooled off in the evening, so we were comfortable with windows and fans. We have a great view from our back window of the woods.

Today we took it easy staying around the campground. There is a trail through the woods to a field of daisies that is very nice. It got warm but not as hot as yesterday. Shaddy is enjoying chasing the ball, but he has to stay on a leash so Paddy hooked up a rope line between some trees with his leash attached that he can run along. We throw the ball down the rope line and he runs to get it. The reason he is so restricted is that yesterday he attacked the dog next door twice. This is very unlike him, so I blame the dog next door J. Anyway, we don’t want to get thrown out of the campground, so we will abide by the rules.

We plan to go up on the mountain tomorrow. There is a new visitor center at Paradise that we haven’t seen yet. Also a new lodge building that we tried to get a look at last year but the parking lot was completely full. We may not be able to get in tomorrow either, but we’ll give it a try.

It is about 5:00 pm, and there have been a few loud booms from down the road a bit. We’re hoping it won’t get any worse than this.
