Yesterday was our first day on the road, and everything went pretty smoothly, except that we had difficulty finding our campground. – Cascade Campground on Moses Lake. We thought we were there (and, in fact, we were), but the GPS woman on Paddy’s laptop had us going on further through a circuitous route to a dead-end road. We finally stopped and asked someone who put us on the right track back to where we thought it was in the first place.
As Paddy was backing up Uncle Joe into our chosen campsite, I noticed that one of the tires on Uncle Joe looked low. Paddy explained that you don’t check tire pressure when the tire is hot, so he would check it in the morning. Sure enough, this morning it was flat. I’m a great believer in Les Schwab, having been saved by them in a dark and stormy evening on I-5, so we asked On Star for their number, then had them dial it. They said they’d send someone out right away, and they did. The tire had a nail in it and was fixed in a not-too-long period of time, sending us on our way about an hour and a half later than we had planned. That was okay, at least we had all our tires and didn’t have to buy a new one.
Our campground for tonight is called Nugget Campground, in St. Regis, MT. Unfortunately, on our way here (a quarter-mile away) the GPS woman sent us off on a dead-end road that was incorrect. What’s up with her? Will we ever trust her again?
It turns out that we have been in this campground before. About five years ago, on our way back from the Tetons and Yellowstone, we came through St. Regis pulling our Quicksilver tent trailer, and stayed at this same campground. At that time it was full of domestic bunnies frolicking loose through the campground. They were really cute, but not friendly, especially toward Shadow.
When we checked in this evening, we found out that there are new owners (they’ve been here about four years), and the bunnies are all gone. They were too destructive – burrowing tunnels, eating the greenery. We didn’t want to ask what happened to them but like to hope they went to good homes with good people.

I hope you brought along a good old fashion map. I'm enjoying tracking your progress on the maps Pat is emailing me.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do have a good old fashion map. Yesterday the GPS woman tried to get us to take a couple exits off of I-90 that were just plain wrong, but she did get us to our campground okay so we aren't giving up on her completely -- at least not yet.
